How It Works

What is BNI?

BNI stands for Business Networking International. It is an international networking organisation that was established in 1985 and has thrived through local groups ever since. BNI was conceived by Dr Ivan Misner as a way for local businesses to swap ideas, support, advice and, most importantly, business referrals.

How It Works

The main ethos of BNI is givers gain, which is the idea that if you refer business to someone, they will naturally want to refer business to you in return. This basic trait of human nature helps to build bonds and long-term friendships within the group.

To ensure there is no conflict within groups (known as chapters), only one business from each business category is allowed to join a chapter. So, if you are the IT company in a chapter, you quickly become the go-to firm for your BNI colleagues for anything IT-related. If you are the plumber or the gardener, you quickly become the go-to person for your given trade or skill. This means you lock out your competitors for as long as you’re a member.

BNI members meet once a week.

Creating a ‘Power Team’

If you find synergy with other members of your chapter, you may form of a ‘power team’. For example: a printer, marketing consultant, photographer and a web design company may all find regular work for each other. A letting agent, solicitor and a cleaning company may do the same.

About BNI Iceni

We launched our Chapter in 2019 and currently have 26 members working together, and that figure’s consistently growing

Like any networking group membership, you get out what you put in. If you are committed to building relationships and growing the group, you will see your business thrive.

We meet at the Marks Tey Hotel in Colchester at 6:30am every Tuesday morning. Our attendance fee is £15.
